Who was the 4th man in the fire?
Exploring the fourth man in the fire: angel or Jesus?
FROM THE ROOTED PODCAST, SERIES 3, EPISODE 1. AVAILABLE HERE OR WHEREVER YOU LISTEN TO PODCASTS:
The full episode of The Rooted Podcast delves into the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the Book of Daniel. The hosts discuss the historical and theological context of the narrative, focusing on the episode where these three men are thrown into a fiery furnace for refusing to worship a golden statue set up by King Nebuchadnezzar. The discussion explores the possibility of the fourth figure in the fire being an angel or a pre-incarnate appearance of Jesus, known as a Christophany. The episode also reflects on the symbolism of God's presence and protection during trials, comparing it to moments in the listeners' lives where they might experience divine support. The conversation wraps up with a reflection on Nebuchadnezzar's reaction and the implications of witnessing such a miraculous event.
In this snippet:
00:00 Introduction: The mystery of the fourth man
00:17 Nebuchadnezzar's perspective: angel or divine being?
00:34 Biblical references to divine beings

What is the context of the book of Daniel? Who is the fourth man in the fiery furnace? In our first episode exploring the book of Daniel, we look into the historical context of the book - how the Jews were taken into exile in Babylon and the rise and fall of kings, nations and empires. It depends on what you're putting in your head day and night day and night the daily washing of the water of the word you can watch all kinds of media and everything you want to but you need to kind of balance that out by listening to the word of God listen to the book of Genesis listen to The book of John and make sure that you balance that stuff out with everything you do and do not cast away your confidence and always remember that David encouraged himself in the Lord try to tell yourself and meditate on who Jesus really is and that is not being smart Alec whatsoever it's because I know exactly where you are I've been there and I'm there a lot still I love you sweetheart listen to my advice I'm old enough to be your grandpa listen to what I just told you😊

Stoicism shows you can get your peace by yourself . And also stoicism is not about becoming indifferent to the exterior and also, it is not a religion , and it is in no way incompatible with christisnity or other religions.

A common issue I’ve seen in many, many, as I’ve relocated for work several times, has been 20% doing 80% of the work. -Then the remaining 80% want it done differently. Or, particular people exhibiting an inordinate influence (control) on decisions, and the board being hostage to the politics, rather than just seeking God’s wisdom. We are truly fallen people apart from God.

It does demonstrate that Christians telling reprentatives what their values and expectations are of politians (and holding them accountable) has direct effect on political behavior. Silence by the body is complicit in the evil we see engulfing us.

Did the female presenter just say that being pro-life is nothing to do with being a christian? That is very alarming if that is what she meant? I don’t doubt that we should question the sincerity of those who claim to be christian and or pro-life to get votes. I know many christians and churches in the USA have shown unwavering support for Donald Trump because of his pro life policies …but closer examination of the mans faith shows it lacking in true Biblical rootedness……but when we look at the teaching of many famous US megachurches, which has become corrupted by new age and non christian influences…..then it is hardly surprising that this has slipped by the wayside. I would say that to be Christian IS to be pro-life. You can’t be pro murdering your wife and be christian or be unrepentant about the same and be saved……likewise a man or women can’t be truly christian and pro killing the child in the womb ! ….or unrepentant about doing the same! The Bible maintains the fact and teaching that life is sacred from fertilisation. It is possible to be pro life , christian and pro women/ anti porn / anti sexual assault and pro fidelity . I think some women in the church are in rebellion against the word of God due to the bad example and unbiblical ‘faith’ of Donald Trump. This is not OK! Call out Donald Trump, his dodgy faith and immorality but don’t throw out the truth of biblical teaching on the sanctity of life because of people like him! Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water, so to speak! Can Bible society clarify their views on this topic? Thankfully as a doctor God has always convicted me about the sanctity of life and i have had good teaching on the same from Christian Medical Fellowship! See resources in comments below for further reference / back up. Thanks….usually like what you do Bible Society but it is very important for all our sakes that you get it right! God bless!

Thank you for listening and sharing your thoughts. Our presenter was making the point that although some politicians will align themselves with Christian values in order to win votes, it’s often clear that their motivation is about being elected rather than because they have a sincere faith of their own or a passionate conviction about a cause. In that sense, our presenter was saying that Christianity has nothing to do with the politician's motivation as opposed to saying Christianity has nothing to do with the cause they might be supporting, or indeed the motivation of Christians who choose to vote based on their faith convictions. In the light of this our presenter was considering the Apostle Paul's words about rejoicing no matter the motivation when Christ is preached, but saying that this did not seem to apply in this case because it doesn't seem that the politicians in question are preaching Christ. If you’re interested in the article by George Lapshynov that she mentions at the beginning of this segment, you can read it here: www.theosthinktank.co.uk/comment/2023/08/23/unmasking-christian-populism-how-gop-candidates-are-in-a-desperate-race-to-win-over-christian-evangelicals We really appreciate your feedback on The Rooted Podcast. While it is a Bible Society podcast, it’s also an unscripted conversation between people exploring the Bible together. We won’t get everything right and sometimes we might not express everything as clearly as we’d like. Thank you for being patient with us and joining us on the journey.

In Mathew 12 46-50 it talks about Jesus refusing to see his earthly Mother and brothers. I’m very confused about this because it doesn’t feel as though it is honoring his father and mother.

In Matthew 12.46-50, Jesus indeed makes a statement that might seem puzzling at first. There are a number of perspectives on this. Here are a few (and there may be more) for your consideration: Emphasising spiritual family: Some believe that Jesus is highlighting the importance of spiritual kinship over biological relationships. This perspective stresses the idea that those who follow Jesus and do the will of God are his true family. Challenging cultural expectations: Another interpretation suggests that Jesus' response challenges cultural norms and expectations regarding family loyalty. In his society, familial bonds were highly valued, but Jesus is redirecting attention to the spiritual family unit, which transcends biological ties. Teaching a lesson: Some interpret Jesus' words as a teaching moment, illustrating the broader concept of family within the context of his ministry. By expanding the definition of family to include all who follow God's will, Jesus is teaching his disciples and the crowd about the inclusive nature of God's kingdom. Foreshadowing his sacrifice: There's also an interpretation that views Jesus' statement as foreshadowing his impending sacrifice on the cross. By prioritising obedience to God's will over familial relationships, Jesus may be alluding to the sacrifice he will make for humanity's salvation. Response to rejection: Some scholars suggest that Jesus' response to his family's visit reflects the rejection he faced from his own relatives during his ministry. Rather than responding with bitterness or resentment, Jesus uses the moment to teach a deeper spiritual truth. Hopefully these perspectives are helpful. 😊

Moses didn’t enter the promised land not because of the sins of the people but because of his own actions or anger when he struck the rock In the Torah and the Tanakh, each human being is responsible for their own actions and no other innocent person is responsible for the sins of others And no human sacrifice of a innocent person is acceptable for the forgiveness of sins You want to be right with the Elokim of Abraham, stop sinning, do good works or actions and perform Teshuvah and you will have a clean slate Not even the killing of animals for the forgiveness of sins is the right path but human beings to be responsible for their actions and stop blaming others for your own actions and creations and ask for forgiveness but stop sinning

Wonderful story and we are so blessed indeed to be able to drop all our sins at the Cross of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! His mercy and Love are beyond words. I would know for my sins were killing me and almost did last week. I was in a car rollover accident and my car was destroyed, all the air bags deployed yet I walked away with no scratch. Spent the night in the hospital for observation. I blacked out then awoke as the car was rolling over. I saw this as God waking me up from my slumber of sin. Pray for me my brothers and sisters in Christ that I remain awake in Jesus Christ. Thank you
